Walking with a Pedometer

Walking is beneficial for your health, this much should be obvious to you. The more that you move, the healthier you are going to be in turn. If you are not getting enough exercise, then one of the best things that you can do for yourself is to buy a pedometer. When you first begin to use this device, you should walk normally to see how many steps you are getting. If you find out that you are not getting 10,000 steps in a day then you are not getting enough exercise and need to start getting more.

Figure out how many steps you are taking in an average day, and then figure out how many more you would have to take in order to get to 10,000. Challenge yourself even further by adding 20 percent to this number, and constantly work to add more steps to your day. Find ways to walk more throughout the day, such as by taking the stairs rather than the elevator at work, or parking further away from the building when you are shopping so that you can walk across the parking lot. Another idea is to get off the bus one or two stops early, walking the rest of the way. These steps will all add up to better health.

Your pedometer is going to let you know how you are doing every day. Keep track of the numbers that the pedometer gives you so that you can see how you are improving with your walking. Try to increase your number of steps every day. If you get to the end of the day and you have not taken enough steps, go for a long walk and get those steps in. You will benefit in a wide variety of different ways from using a pedometer to track your fitness level, including better cardiovascular health, weight loss and a faster metabolism.
